A unique exhibit of glass artist Erica Rollings’ work will be on display at the City of Savannah's Gallery S.P.A.C.E. August 27 through October 2.  Rollings’ vibrant collection of stained glass captures the delicate patterns she sees in the natural world - from the quiet symmetry found in a ginkgo leaf to the rings revealed in a century-old felled oak.  Her glass pays tribute to the similarities she observes in such diverse things as sea creatures and the human inner ear.  “I’m fascinated by patterns in the natural world and how many of them are duplicated in the human body.”  One of her most popular series, “Anatomicals”, started as a stained glass gift to the surgeon who operated - successfully - on her neck.  Based on medical drawings, this series celebrates the dance of patterns in the body.  Her brilliant, intricately designed “Ornament” series is an homage to one of her favorite books, Owen Jones’ anthology of universal design, The Grammar of Ornament.  “I recognize design in everything around me and reflect it in my glass.  The patterns I see guide my art.”
Self-trained, Rollings holds degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Universities of Massachusetts and Vermont.
